HiDef team ExCels at Offshore Wind Energy 2017

Members of the HiDef and BioConsult SH teams recently attended the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 conference, which was held at the ExCel Centre, London.

The event was the largest dedicated offshore wind event ever, and gave delegates the opportunity to learn about the policies and processes which have driven the UK’s success in offshore wind. Over 10,000 delegates attended across the three days, with representatives from the offshore market and political leaders addressing the opportunities and challenges facing the future deployment of offshore wind.

The knowledge base of the HiDef and BioConsult SH teams was well represented, with HiDef’s Associate Director, Dr. Ross McGregor being invited to present in the “Using innovation to address consenting risk” session, where he gave a talk proposing an integrated approach to assessing uncertainty, confidence and precaution in environmental impacts assessment of offshore wind farms. In addition, the HiDef and BioConsult SH team had three poster-presentations on display (these can be downloaded below).

Talking about the conference, Dr. McGregor outlined the benefits of participating in such a forum:

“Conferences such as Offshore Wind Energy 2017 are a great way for the HiDef team to bring our novel approaches to a wider audience. In collaboration with industry partners at Natural Power Consultants, we have developed a new, risk based, method of impact assessment, which we believe will manage the level of uncertainty around the assessment of offshore wind and other offshore infrastructure.

The conference was a real success for the HiDef and BioConsult SH team, raising awareness of the capabilities that both companies can offer and starting some great conversations about how we can help drive sustainable development.”
