PVA & CRM

Impact assessments no longer restrict themselves simply to the impacts of the development site. Increasingly, often a wider context is needed and the consequences of impacts on populations at a cumulative level is needed across a variety of scales and locations.

Deterministic and stochastic matrix models can be built and run using complex statistical software. By undertaking bespoke modelling, all of the important aspects of the model structure, input parameters and outputs can be tailored to the individual needs of the analysis.

Population Viability Analysis (PVA) and Potential Biological Removal (PBR) are being used more frequently and the HiDef team is highly experienced in the issues of using both of these methods, and can help present our clients case to both the regulators and the statutory advisors. Will your proposal, alone or with others, have important local or regional impacts on key species? What is the likelihood of impacts being considered too large?

Collision Risk Modelling (CRM) is used on all onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as some tidal energy projects. Members of the HiDef team have been involved in the development of the standard offshore wind farm model since 2011 for The Crown Estate and, most recently, for NERC. We have the in-house capability to undertake all CRM for onshore and offshore wind, and tidal energy projects using the latest approaches and can use our experience to support your discussions with regulators and advisers.

We can support you by helping to answer these key questions, no matter how complex or daunting they may seem.
